iChef Journal
[03.28.2002 Thursday] It's been a while since my last entry, which was more than a month ago. I've been writing in my (physical) journal lately. And, I think that kind of takes away from the time I've spent online with "the Academy." I'm up home in the Bay Area right now. It's been about 3 months since I've been back home. As much as I like San Diego, there's something about being back home, even if it is Castro Valley. One thing I noticed is that Castro Valley really is a beautiful place. Nyein ( a friend from school ) told me that she drove through Castro Valley, and she said that it was really beautiful, and I didn't really make much of it, I even thought to myself "It's okay...." Now that I'm here, I have to admit that it's really true. Even more, I'd have to say that the Bay Area in general is a really nice place to live: with a lot of trees and scenery. San Diego's nice in it's own way: with the beaches and stuff, but it really is beachland with a lot of hills. I watched Charis run at her track meet yesterday. It brought back a lot of memories: running track for Castro Valley with all of the local heroes: Brett Victor (the fastest white guy i've ever known), Long legged Matt Rozell, the Abramenko brothers: Andre and Genna, Keith Cordova, Reggie, Jenny Ewing, Brewer (outstanding!, Benjamin: good to see you), Phil Fung jumping and hurdling, Seth Mellon working harder than anyone out there, the Furyamas, and Naeem. And also the hooligans: Mike Boruta, Shane and Damien Dulaney, Mike Misa, Backe (mean!), Andy Randall (Peaches), Redmond (Stupid Nerd!), Brian Choi, Brandon Tong, all of the Sprint guys, and all of the distance guys my year. There are a lot of stories to go around for everyone. Charis is really fast, and I have to admit that it's fun to watch her run. She runs in the really low 13s for the 100 and she's broken into 12 twice, which is pretty awesome for a freshman girl. From what I heard from Dad, she's also broken the freshman girl's record for the 100, which is quite outstanding (as Brewer would say). She won all of her races yesterday-- the 4x100, 100, and 200 which is pretty cool. It's a good feeling to do well. I remember when I was a freshman and I won a couple frosh-soph races, it felt good when people would congratulate me ... good stuff. I think her best race is the 100 because of the way she runs. She's not the strongest person: she's pretty small but she her legs turn over really quick, so she's great for races that emphasize pure speed. She gets out really fast in the 200, but towards the straightaway, you can tell that she's just trying to finish, and not really powering through. Man, she can really fly throught the turn though. Okay, i'm biased, but it's fun. Watching the meet also reminded me that life can be fun, fun-loving, and easy going. Those high school kids were out there running and having a good time, and that was cool. It's the same feeling I had when I was running at CVHS, and when I started playing ultimate at UCSD: a really exciting and fresh feeling. It was a good reminder because I think I've lost some of that lately, and I know it all starts with my attitude. I want to have that excited, fresh attitude again, It's been something I've been missing lately. ___________________________________________ | previous | journal (i need a good name) | next | |
