[01.23.2002 Thursday] I started school on Tuesday at Mesa Community College, and it's really been more than I could have expected. I have Printmaking on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Graphic Design, Drawing, and Animation on Mondays and Wednesdays. All of my classes are hands on -- focusing on the actual art-making and steering away from the theories and talk surrounding art. It is almost night and day between here and UCSD. As a friend told me the other day, UCSD doesn't really teach you anything that practical. And, I have to say a regretful 'amen' to that statement. It's cool that Mesa has a classroom full of brand new G4's hooked up to flatscreens. I mean, at UCSD, the labs were always run down and there were 4 macs, 15 pcs, and a whole bunch of sgi machines that no one ever used. I know I'm a bit biased because I use a Macintosh, but honestly, if you're gonna do graphics and web work, it's most beneficial for you to use a Mac. About 90% of the Graphic Design world invests in the Mac. But anyway, that's just my own opinion -- take it as you will. It was good to be back in the arena of school again. The first week's kind of neat. Everyone's happy to see their friends, and people are going to class and paying attention to the teacher. Just like UCSD, the campus kind of comes to life when school starts up again. I've really missed that -- seeing lots of people on the go, seeing your friends on campus, going to class and learning. I'm really thankful to be back at school (granted, the work hasn't been piled on yet). With school, time's really tight now. I hope I can keep up with all of this -- school and work too. At least I'm not taking any boring classes. ___________________________________________ | previous | journal (i need a good name) | next | |
